Parenting Support
Parents sometimes wonder if they are "doing things right." They may that feel despite their best efforts, their child continues to act out, have frequent temper tantrums, or simply refuses to follow directions. Parent-child relationships can also be complicated by factors such as divorce, financial stress, child trauma, and many others. Dr. Vice Downing provides support to help parents restore their relationships with their child by learning new, more effective communication and child behavior management skills. Often, only a few sessions can lead to meaningful change.
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT): In addition to general parenting support, Dr. Vice Downing is also certified in PCIT. PCIT is an evidence-based parent-child program for parents of children with behavioral problems, including aggression, non-compliance, defiance, and tantrums. PCIT is a weekly, intensive therapy program aimed at improving parent-child interactions and teaching behavior management. PCIT is comprised of two components: Relationship Enhancement and Strategies for Compliance. In Relationship Enhancement, parents are coached on increasing praise and supportive communication. In Strategies for Compliance, parents learn how to implement effective consequences and house rules. PCIT is appropriate for children ages 2 to 7.
Dr. Vice Downing conducts PCIT via telehealth.
